THE LONG AWAITED ‘DUKES RE-UNION’
It is 40 years since Mike Sweeney and his Salford Jets made their debut performance on the renowned stage at the Duke of Wellington in Swinton.
They along with a number of groups performed at the venue which became a must visit for local talent. The Fast Cars & The Trend were all regular performing groups who played to capacity houses at the unique “Duke Of Welly”.
In celebration and to mark this 40th Anniversary, Mike Sweeney , his group and a former ‘roadie’ have got together to create a May bank holiday weekend musical treat for fans of live music, THE DUKES RE-UNION.
As the Duke of Wellington is no longer a live venue , the groups have chosen the Grand Palais on Station Road in Swinton as the stage for this extraordinary get together.
The Palais (formerly the Wishing Well ) will play host to this line up of 4 of the most popular groups to have appeared from the Manchester music scene.
Salford legend and GMR presenter, Mike Sweeney, had these words to say
“ This year sees the 40th anniversary of The Salford Jets and the start of our Monday night residency at The Duke Of Welly (Wellington) on ‘The Top Road’ in Swinton which ran (sold out each week) until 1982!!!!! To celebrate and together with those ‘Duke’ stalwarts Fast Cars & The Trend we’re having a reunion at Swinton Palais on the 14th October 2017.
Details are all over social media and tickets going like the clappers !!!! This won’t happen again so be there or be VERY square !!!! .
More details are available on the ‘Dukes Re-Union’ Facebook page.
This certainly is shaping up to be a May Bank Holiday event not to be missed. Nostalgic musical memories from some of Manchester’s best live music exponents and not to forget, the inimitable, Mike Sweeney.
